Ivy's Rating - Excellent
I was first introduced to Reiko Shimizu’s artworks through first artbook Aria back in August 2004. Waltz was purchased four months later.
Waltz collects Reiko Shimizu’s works from 1990 to 1995. Manga illustrations include Kaguya Hime, Moon Child, and various unidentified series. With the exception of the first illustration (sample #1), most of the characters are in western styled clothing, which is nice. It also contains 24 illustrations from her long out-of-print tarot deck, Miracle Tarot. (samples #3)
Most of the pages in here are single spread with a few pages with more than two images slided in between. Art quality depends on how you look at it. Illustrations from the first half of the book have rather plain background and neutral color tones. Fast forward toward the second half where illustrations of Moon Child is, illustrations found here are a tad brighter and more vibrant in nature but still remain that same neutral impression.
Overall, this is a nice book. 79 full colored pages printed on thick, card stock paper for only 1600 yen. It’s a great buy if you’re fan of Reiko Shimizu or her manga.
