A brief intro on the artist, Lai Ann is Taiwanese manga artist also known as Ryan. She is quite famous for her manga Ingénuo. I purchased this book the instant I laid eyes on the cover and after a quick trip to Lai Ann's official site. This is a well designed hardback book accompanied by a transparent plastic slipcover. Layout is clean with no sign of page numbering. There are 60 illustrations total including a double-sided poster (sample #1) followed by a message from the artist at the end. Majority of the pages found here are single-spreads, though there are quite a few pages with several pictures. More recent works are located in the front while older ones are placed in the back of the book. The first half covers illustrations from Ingénuo, most of them are CG. All of which are of high quality. I love the illustrations on both sides of the poster. In addition, the second half contains older works. Some pieces are rather nice and some are just plain ugly. I hate the way Lai Ann's draw eye brows. It's too thick and unfeminine. I'm glad that it's been changed later on. Beside the sloppy eye brows, I can't think of anything else I hate at the moment. Lai Ann's arts truly have progressed a lot over the course of 10 years. This is a great buy if you like CG arts or are a fan of Ingénuo or Lai Ann herself. |
